Devil’s Claw gets its name from its appearance of the fruit, it has hooks used to attach on animals as a means of seed dispersal. The scientific name is Harpagophytum, which means “hook plant ” in Greek and belongs to a sesame family. Devil’s Claw is also called grapple plant, harpagon or wood spider. It is native in Southern Africa, mainly in Kalahari Desert, Namibia and Madagascar. Devils Claw has been used for thousands of years.
